I am Jay Gangdia , I am 23 year old having level 5 cerebral palsy which makes me wheelchair driven due to the condition it becomes difficult for me to move my upper and lower limbs , I have 80% disability. I personally would like to say that I have a strong interest in painting to be specific canvas painting , my strong will and the creativity inside me does not stop me from anything. My physical inabilities does not stop me from excelling in my creative field. In 2016 I participated in a painting workshop organised by CN Vidyalaya Ahmedabad where 60 specially abled individuals had participated and I secured first position in it and from there my journey of being an artist started. In 2016 I also participated in an exhibition organised at Vastrapur haat. In 2017 I have done live painting and gifted it to District Magistrate of Katra Vaishnodevi where event was organised by Muskaan trust to showcase the talent of special need individuals. On 15th August 2018 I did instant live painting and won the 20 best paintings where 200 schools of Ahmedabad has participated. This event was organised by Sanskaar Kendra Museum Paldi , Kala Shikshak Shangh, Art Teacher Association Gujarat Rajya . I have secured first position in open Ahmedabad umbrella painting competition held in 2019. In October 2019 I did live painting in the 8th talent show ( hum bhi kum nahi) organised by katra vaishnodevi muskaan charitable Trust. Jay has gifted his painting to the CEO of Vaishnodevi shine board. In December 2019 I Have done an exhibition of his 31 paintings and got very good response . Exhibition was conducted on the ” Juhu festival ” Mumbai juhu pushpa park. Jay was felicitated by the trophy given by the RJ of radio mirchi. My 25 paintings were sold in his first exhibition cum sale held at Mumbai. During corona pandemic and Jay had donates Rs 5100/= to PM care fund for the covid relief and had given the cheque to the Assistant commissioner Mr Ashish Bhatia. On the occasion of World disability day 3rd December 2020 Jay has received a certificate in an “Art Mania” workshop organised by Shashikunj Divyang club, Ahmedabad. In August 2021 I painted were exhibited at Adani Shantigram township and 18 painting were sold off and 2 painting were gifted to Adani Shantigram management. In 2021 Jay had gifted his painting to Mr Bankim Pathak ( voice of Md Rafi Saab) during Rakshabandhan parv held at Blind People’s Association. In November 2021 I has won the first position of ‘ Mr Talent Ahmedabad ‘ in a painting competition organised by sarthak NGO, Jharkhand. I gifted this painting to Mr Pradip Singh Parmar ( cabinet minister, social justice and empowerment) during an exhibition held at EDI campus Bhat gam. In December 2021 Jay had participated in ” Khadya Khuraak ” exhibition and has presented his painting to the chief guest Mr Rajendra Trivedi ( cabinet minister, welfare) during the opening ceremony. In January 2021 Jay gifted his painting with his good wishes to Mr Bhushan Punani ( general secretary, Blind people’s association). Jay has received a certificate in an online painting contest held in 2020 by Voice SAP art from heart. In Feb 2022 I received a certificate and cash prize in an online live event organised by Asian Literary Society. I have received a certificate in ” Heart show 2022″ where 110 artists had participated and jay was the only artist with special needs. Also the opening of the show which was organised by ‘Heart Show 2022″ was done by Jay Gangdia. From 5th – 13th March 2022 I did my solo exhibition of 42 paintings held at Satya art gallery, navjeevan press , it was a exhibition of 10 days and visitor count was at 1800 and from 42 paintings presented 30 paintings were sold. I met and gifted painting to the honorable CM of Gujarat Mr Bhupendra bhai Patel in April 2022. In May 2022 I participated in the Parwaaz event organised by Asian Literary Society and was felicitated with certificate, trophy , gift and numerous press coverages. I have gifted this painting to Shri Rajendra bhai Shah, president BPA and founder of Ananddham during the event. On the occasion of world environment day 7th june 2022 Jay has secured first position in a live painting competition held at science city Ahmedabad. During this event Jay has gifted his paintings to Shri Prashant Das (chief UNICEF – India, Gujarat state) , Shri Bharat Pathak ( former director geer foundation), Ms Shivani Jain ( CEO, ITOWE, Ahmedabad). On May 2022 I received Art Genius of the Year award and certificate organised by GIAA ( Genius Indian Achievers Award). On 15th August , 2022 Jay won first prize in the category of Instant Drawing theme of Indian Flag , which was organised by National Council of Design( Trust of India)
The field in which I have done my work comes under Art and Culture and to be specific I have contributed since many years towards canvas painting. I have painting over 300 Canvas Paintings and have gifted over 100 paintings. My paintings and my works have been extensively covered by various print media, electronic media and digital media. My ongoing journey of painting along with lifelong neurological condition of cerebral palsy is being featured by media houses has changed the perspectives of main stream society towards the wheelchair bound individuals. I am facing multiple challenges everyday but looking at the world from his palate of colors and imagination has surely made a lot of difference in everybody’s life who came in touch with him. My abilities despite having disability has provided hope and positivity in the fraternity which could possibly help take a step more closer towards inclusion and acceptance of the differently abled. My journey has greatly influenced many parents who have children with special needs.
I can’t walk , but I am Not Lazy Jay was given away for adoption just after birth by, his biological family. Maheshbhai and Jayshreeben, adopted soon after. Within 3 days, Jay grew unwell, and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Doctor, advised against keeping this child with Special needs, as he will need lifelong care and support. Maheshbhai, and Jayshreeben asserted that, Jay was their child, and that we would look after him. For both, the, parents and Jay, life has been an enriching, experience ever since. Jay has 80% disability due to, Cerebral Palsy and has very little movement in one, hand. Five years ago, a Mumbai based artist and, teacher, Shefaliben, organized a workshop in, Ahmedabad for children with special needs., Shefaliben recognized Jay’s interest in painting and, started training him in the art form. His parents, Jayshreeben and Maheshbhai, too motivated Jay to, pursue his interest. Sadly, Jayshreeben passed away, his love affair with canvas and paints, Jay contributed, Rs. 5100, proceeds from selling his paintings, to, Prime Minister Care Fund during Corona Pandemic., Jay has given approximately 100 paintings as gift to, family, friends and wellwishers, 3 years ago. Jay has also gifted his Art Work to honourable Chief Minister of Gujarat , Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel , and even he was delighed to see Jay’s Talent. Jay has a dream to showcase his Art work to Mr.Narendra Modi the Prime Minister of India and also wants to show his respect to him by gifting him with his art work. Jay recently lost his mother 3 years back , his father solely and wholey takes care of him , but Jay never losses hope and constantly strives harder to achieve his goals in Art and Culture.
